The Blois family has been farming at the foot of Courthouse Hill in Hants county since the 18th century and have made a name for themselves being at the forefront of innovation in agriculture. After about ten years of research they decided to develop an on-farm biogas digester that would be able to treat a range of organic waste streams and produce heat and electrical power for the farm.
Rural Roots acted as both the principal engineers and project managers for this complex job. The biogas digester, a unique design by Fitec, a German biogas technology company, required a substantial amount of localization and coordination with local conditions and trades. Along with engineering, Rural Roots worked with Courthouse Hill Energy and closely with regulators to secure an environmental approval, CSA certification of the gas components and grid connection with the power utility.
